Creating dancers who are useful, imaginative, worthwhile human beings

"We learn by practice.  Whether it means to learn dance by practicing dancing or learn to live by practicing living, the principles are the same.  One becomes...an athlete of God."  ~Martha Graham

From "Dancing in the Wings" a book by Debbie Allen.

Ever since I was born and could see,
Everywhere I looked, I saw dance.
In the clouds as the wind blew them across the sky,
In the ripples on a pond,
Even in the sea of ants marching up and down their hills.
Dance was all around me.  Dance was me.

"We should consider every day lost in which we have not danced at least once." ~Frederich Nietzsche

SCHOOL POLICIES

1. Absolutely NO food, drink or gum allowed in the studio except bottled water. This includes the waiting area.

2. Fees and discounts (see box to the right)

3. Payments. Please make checks payable to Canyon Dance Academy. Put the checks in the black mailbox just inside the door of the studio. Note your child’s first and last name and class day/time on the check for ease in accounting. DO NOT give your payments to your teacher.
No cash payments will be accepted. Checks or money orders only. $25.00 fee charged for all returned checks.
If you are paying monthly installments, payment is due the first lesson of each month. A LATE FEE of $5.00 per student will be applied after the first lesson is complete.

4. Communication. Canyon Dance Academy publishes a parent newsletter each month. This letter contains the lesson theme for the month, notes about upcoming events, etc. E-mail communication saves trees and money. Please keep your e-mail listing with CDA updated.

5. Visitors: Experience has shown that visitors inside the studio distract from the classes. Parents are welcome to wait in the waiting area if they or other visitors are not distracting to the students. We have a “parents’ day” in January where you can join us in the studio.

6. No pets inside the studio.

7. Attendance. It is imperative that the students are in class in order for them to learn. There are no individual make-up lessons given. If there is an extended illness, contact the teacher. We offer 2 general make-up classes – 1 over the Christmas Break and 1 during Spring Break. Be on time and ready to dance. Dancers should arrive no more than 10 minutes early and be picked up promptly.

Snow Day Note: The studio will not necessarily be closed when schools are closed due to weather. The weather changes so rapidly in Flagstaff that it may be cleared up and nice by the afternoon. We do not usually cancel on snow days. Please use your own judgment when deciding to come to class if the weather is bad. If we do cancel, we try to call the students in advance.

Holidays - there will be no classes on the following dates:
Labor Day, September 3
Thanksgiving Break – November 20-25
Christmas Break-December 24-January 4
Spring Break – March 17-23
Memorial Day – May 26

8. Performances. We are planning our big studio performance in June. We also have a parents’ days in October and January, where parents can observe and participate with their children. The Bravura! Company performs more often during the year (ages 10-teen). Students ages 7 & up are encouraged to audition for the Nutcracker although it is not part of the Academy’s regular performance schedule.

Performance/Concert costs: There is usually a performance fee per family to cover the expenses of renting a theater, tech crew, publicity, etc.
Costume Policy: Depending on the circumstances, we may use various options regarding costumes such as a costume closet with an accompanying rental fee, a basic costume that adds accessories, making costumes vs. buying them, or purchasing costumes for specific classes.
